Store gas cylinders in the company
The regulations regarding the storage of gas cylinders will differ depending on the type of gas you are working with. There are special regulations concerning storage, specific to each gas, relating to the bottling pressure , or even the dangers of ignition and explosion.
Gas cylinder storage standards
Each gas cylinder is identifiable by the color of its nose, which meets standard NF EN 1089-3, relating to the risk of the gas contained:
Brown for acetylene
White for oxygen
dark green for argon
Gray for carbon dioxide
Butane and propane cylinders are completely painted, and their color will depend on the distributing company.
You will also be able to identify the gas present in your bottle according to the marking on the label.
The decree of the Ministry of Industry dated 02/08/1977 and NF DTU 61.1 explains that appliances for the use of non-sealed combustion gas must be provided with low and high ventilation of 50 cm² of surface area each:
The bottom vent must be less than 30 centimeters from the floor
The high ventilation must be more than 1.80 meters from the ground
In addition, according to decree no. 2001-1016 of November 5, 2001, each company must have a document relating to the assessment of the risks to the health and safety of its employees, taking into account the risks associated with storage and the use of gas in the company.
Finally, it is important to note that the storage of butane and propane is prohibited in the basement because they are heavier than air gases, and thus, a gas leak would cause a risk of intoxication and or blast.
